Our Silk Story
SINAMARK’s VISION is to promote a circular economy, champion good dental health, and reduce or eliminate plastic waste that enter landfills and oceans.
SINAMARK’s MISSION is to offer thoughtfully made natural products which can help people make better sustainable choices everyday.
Fourth-generation San Francisco Chinatown merchant family launches plastic-free floss company. After studying sustainable development in Zhejiang province with what was then called the International Network of Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) in 2012, the great grandson of the founder of SING FAT Oriental Bazaar, returned to the USA and founded SINAMARK® 卓越龍牌 – purveyor of 100% natural silk floss in 2022.
卓越龍牌 — “Excellent Dragon Mark”
SING FAT was one of two landmark buildings which represented San Francisco’s “New Chinatown” after the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. Its trademark was the Chinese dragon. The original SINAMARK logo featured the Chinese dragon as a symbol of distinction and excellence.
From Dragon to Seal
Our new fish-scale chop carries our dragon heritage forward in a simpler, more refined mark—an emblem of the Dragon Mark itself. In Chinese tradition, a seal signifies authenticity, authority, and distinction. SINAMARK uses the fish-scale chop as our mark of absolute excellence.
Sourcing with Integrity
This commitment to authenticity shapes how we source our materials. SINAMARK 100% natural silk floss is sourced from China, deeply inspired by the 2,500-year-old mulberry-dike fish-pond system in Zhejiang—a zero-waste, symbiotic agricultural marvel recognized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. While our suppliers trace this silk to the historic region of Huzhou along the ancient Silk Road, we choose radical honesty: we have not yet independently verified this geographic origin at the individual farm level. We are actively working toward full, independent verification because we believe a circular product must have a transparent soul.
For generations, our family has understood that the materials we choose tell a story about who we are and where we are going. By stepping beyond the era of disposable plastics and returning to the enduring wisdom of pure mulberry silk, we aren’t just redesigning a daily ritual—we are remembering our place in a larger system.
As a modern reflection of ancient Daoist wisdom reminds us:
“The thread of life is woven into a single fabric; to harm the part is to unravel the whole. True wisdom lies not in escaping our tools, but in aligning them with the eternal rhythm of nature.”
At SINAMARK, we invite you to pull on that thread with us, creating a future that is intentionally designed, beautifully circular, and entirely system-compatible.
