Fourth-generation San Francisco Chinatown merchant family launches plastic-free floss company.  After studying sustainable development in Zhejiang province with what was then called the International Network of Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) in 2012, the great grandson of the founder of SING FAT Oriental Bazaar, returned to the USA and founded SINAMARK® 卓越龍牌 – purveyor of 100% natural silk floss in 2022.  

卓越龍牌 — “Excellent Dragon Mark”

SING FAT was one of two landmark buildings which represented San Francisco’s “New Chinatown” after the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. Its trademark was the Chinese dragon. The original SINAMARK logo featured the Chinese dragon as a symbol of distinction and excellence. 

From Dragon to Seal

SINAMARK’s new fish-scale chop carries that dragon heritage forward in a simpler, more refined mark—an emblem of the Dragon Mark itself. In Chinese tradition, a chop or seal can signify authenticity, authority, and distinction. SINAMARK uses the fish-scale chop as a mark of excellence.

SINAMARK 100% silk floss is sourced from China. Although the supplier stated that SINAMARK silk is sourced from Huzhou, that supplier-reported geographic origin has not yet been independently verified at the farm or cooperative level. Nevertheless, SINAMARK was inspired by the mulberry-dike fish-pond system in Zhejiang, China.

According to the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN, zero-waste, symbiotic silk-and-aquaculture farming has been practiced in China for approximately 2,500 years. The Silk Roads, which were actually multiple trade routes to and from China, were also established over 2500 years ago. However, silk culture was established in China over 4700 years ago.
